Is There Anything That Marijuana Benefits?

Marijuana’s Benefits vs. Marijuana’s Side Effects

In diagnosis and treatment it’s important to weigh the pros and cons of using marijuana rather than something else that might create the same or similar benefit.

Marijuana and Pain Relief

Marijuana is particularly good for relieving chronic pain.

Marijuana is cheaper than most pain medications, is less addictive and its side effects in the short term are much less harmful than many pain medications.

Marijuana, Pain and Alternative Therapies

On the other hand, alternative therapies are available and have little or no side effects.

Two downsides of alternative therapies when you compare them with marijuana:

1) It often takes time for the alternative therapies to work.

2) Cost.

Comparing Marijuana, Conventional and Alternative Therapies

The comparison boils down to this:

- Marijuana’s side effects are generally much less dangerous and much more desirable than pharmaceutical therapies.

- Marijuana is much cheaper than alternative therapies, but its side effects are generally more intense and undesirable compared to alternative therapies.

The long-term picture is really where alternative therapies, especially acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, become the clear and best choices.

Marijuana and Wasting Conditions

Exception: Cachexia.

Marijuana can help these people feel better, improve their basic condition and greatly improve their quality of life.

I’ve discovered that when people combine marijuana therapy along with acupuncture, Chinese herbs and other alternative healing modalities, the results they experience can be very much enhanced.

Marijuana and Nausea

Nausea is a symptom, not an illness. Nausea can occur in many different illnesses.

For some people, marijuana can be a very simple and effective treatment for nausea.

Marijuana, Nausea and Pregnancy

However, one of the greatest causes of nausea is pregnancy.

Marijuana crosses the placental barrier. When mommy gets stoned, so does the baby.

This is an article on the use of cannabinoids as a medical treatment for coping with post-traumatic stress . It brings up several very interesting facts around PTSD in general, particularly how the role of ongoing stress inhibits recovery from trauma, and how cannabinoids can change this picture for the better.

One of the strongest virtues of Traditional Chinese Medicine is its understanding and very flexible use of the synergisms between substances. This is one of the main reasons why I contend so strongly that TCM practitioners and researchers can and must now play a major role in medical research across the full spectrum of medicine. It’s also one reason why I was very happy to learn that researchers at UCSF recently demonstrated how CBDs have the ability to synergize with opioids . One of the most interesting things that they discovered was that the CBDs actually lowered the amount of the opioids in peoples’ systems, yet dramatically increased their pain-relieving qualities...
